The Proposal We Didn’t Get

This week we learned an important lesson about building a business.

We put together a memorial centerpiece proposal for a family celebrating the life of a loved one.

We researched, designed, priced, revised, and refined every detail. We created custom centerpiece concepts, developed a full proposal, and imagined what the room could become.

In the end, the family chose another option.

And that’s okay.

Because the real story isn’t the proposal we didn’t get. The real story is what we discovered while creating it.

For the first time, we weren’t just talking about event design. We were doing it.

We built packages. We sourced materials. We explored centerpiece concepts. We thought through logistics, pricing, setup, and presentation. We started creating systems instead of simply collecting ideas.

At the same time, another opportunity appeared.

A friend’s mother graciously invited us to go through supplies from a restaurant once owned by her daughter. What some people might see as old dishes and serving pieces, we see as possibilities. Every platter, vase, charger, and decorative piece represents an opportunity to build inventory and create future tablescapes.

The experience reminded us that entrepreneurship often begins long before the first sale.

Sometimes it begins with a proposal.

Sometimes it begins with a conversation.

Sometimes it begins with a room full of dishes waiting for a second life.

Seasoned In Us has always been about the stories that shape us. This new chapter is no different.

We’re building something.
